Style Guide- Tips for All:

WHAT'S A STYLE GUIDE?!

I am often asked, "What should we wear to our session?" So I have created a style guide for all of my clients! These are small tips that you can choose to follow, or not! Whether you booked a family shoot or newborn shoot, indoor or outdoors, this guide will help you choose cohesive outfits for the best possible photos.

WHAT TO WEAR

THERE ARE SO MANY "YES!" CHOICES BUT HERE ARE MY TOP 3 SUGGESTIONS

  • When in doubt, wear solids or neutrals! Neutrals promise a timeless look that will never get old. White & creams are not just for weddings, they tie in colors & help outfits look cohesive!
  • Not into plain neutrals? Have one person wear a pattern to add interest. Pick a color or pattern you love and coordinate from there!! Also, TEXTURES.
  • Wear clothes that fit! Loose, baggy clothing can photograph unflattering. My suggestion is to always "dress up" just a little bit more! You can still have a fun, casual session while looking nice!!

WHAT NOT TO WEAR

AVOIDING THESE SIMPLE THINGS CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR SESSION

  • Avoid matching completely. Long gone are the days of white t-shirts and jeans on the beach!
  • Avoid large logos and neon colors, and busy prints. Too many competing colors or patterns (like everyone in flannels!) can distract and take our focus away from what's important- the love and connection between your family!
  • Avoid athletic shoes or dressing "too casual", like a sweatshirt, workout clothes, or like you are going to Applebees. For indoor sessions, I will 100% suggest bare feet, no socks!
  • Colors to avoid: Reds, oranges, and greens (if your location is in a green location). These colors tend to reflect back onto skin tones and cause a red, orange or green skin tone appearance.

MORE SPECIFICALLY...

FOR THE LADIES

  • Wear something you feel comfortable in. A maxi dress, flowy dress, or jeans with a cute top to dress it up! I don't recommend short dresses since we will be moving around, sitting, and playing during your session.
  • In the spring time, I highly suggest whites, creams, "light" colors, such as pastels- light blue, light pink, etc. Floral dresses are always beautiful!
  • Check out: Amazon (you'd be surprised at the dresses on there!); Baltic Born, Shop Worth Collective, Red Dress Boutique, Nothing Fits But, Lulus

FOR THE MEN

  • Dress up! Wear dark or light fitted jeans, slacks, button ups, solid t-shirts. I love Henley t-shirts for men! I don't recommend patterned shirts, golf or regular polos, or shirts with logos.
  • Check out: Old Navy, H&M. Gap, Zara

FOR THE KIDDOS

  • Dress them comfortably for the weather- a too hot or too cold kiddo isn't fun for anyone! Dresses, rompers, or jumpsuits for the ladies; button ups, overalls, textured shirts, pants, onesies.
  • Check out: Zara Kids, Old Navy, H&M, Jamie Kay, Rylee & Cru- Walmart has some great outfits nowadays too!
  • For the little girls still in diapers, I highly recommend a knitted or ruffle diaper cover under their dress!
